I believe in the learning through play philosphy and incorporate learning into our daily activities as much as possible. Here are some of our favourite activities. (Please note this page is still a work in progress. More to be added soon.)
Hatching Chicks and Ducks: A Hands-On Learning Experience
There’s something truly magical about watching new life begin, and hatching chicks and ducklings with the children has been an unforgettable experience. From carefully observing the eggs in the incubator to witnessing the moment they hatch, the children have been filled with wonder, excitement, and curiosity. This hands-on opportunity has provided rich learning experiences, fostering empathy, responsibility, and patience as the children cared for the delicate hatchlings. They’ve learned about life cycles, animal needs, and the importance of gentle, respectful interactions with living things. These real-life moments spark meaningful conversations, build connections with nature, and create lasting memories that support both emotional and cognitive development.

Butterfly Life Cycle - 2022
We have learned about the butterfly life cycle many times over the years and 2022 was no different. We got our caterpillars on May 17th and watched them grow from itty bitty caterpillars to large ones who went into their Chrysalis. All 9 butterflies finally emerged on June 9th and we enjoyed watching them fly around, watching them eat and just watching them in general. We did release them after a short time and got to spend some time with them sitting on our hands, clothes, etc.

Sensory Bins
Sensory bins are a favorite learning tool in our day home and are used regularly to support play and exploration. These hands-on experiences give children the chance to touch, scoop, pour, sort, and imagine while building important skills such as fine motor development, problem solving, and creativity. Sensory play also encourages language growth and social interaction as children share discoveries with their peers. Our bins change often to keep play fresh and exciting, reflecting the seasons, upcoming holidays, and the children’s current interests. This allows us to spark curiosity, celebrate special times of year, and follow the children’s natural sense of wonder. - More photos to come soon! -
